The Savinja-Sotla mountains are unique

The Savinja-Sotla mountains

The Ljubnica stream, whose source is below mountain Komna (1684m), flows into the Savinja near Ljubno. Upstream from Ljubno the Savinja Valley begins to narrow and the river flows more rapidly. The valley broadens slightly at Luče ob Savinji, where the Savinja is joined by the Lučnica stream flowing from the Podvolovjek Valley on the southwest.

The valley runs between Ojstrica (2350m) and Velika planina on the west and Veliki Rogatec (1557) on the east. North of Luče the steep slopes of Raduha Mountain (2062m) embraces the sky.The valley turns westward at Solčava. Steep slopes rise above the narrow valley, and in many places the road is cut into the rock wall. Embracing the valley from the south are Huda peč (1322m), and Golarjeva peč (1338m). Behind them is the Podolševa plateau and the peaks of the Olševa ridge (1929m).

The narrow passage suddenly broadens and a beautiful green valley opens up before us – Logarska dolina (valley), which runs southward. Very few valleys in the Alps are so distinctively shaped as Logarska dolina. Its flat bottom is broad and green, its slopes steep and rocky. Rising above them are the imposing walls of Grintovec and its numerous snowfields.

At the very end of Logarska dolina is the Rinka Waterfall, which falls 80m over a hanging cliff. Another interesting valley running parallel to Logarska dolina is Matkov kot, which lies in a secluded area along the Austrian border.

So here we are. Hiking from one mountain to another. Do not forget to check also Ljubljana, Bled, Bohinj, Postojna Cave and on the Cost you will find Portorož, Piran, Koper, Izola, Ankaran and more smaller places to enjoy your holidays in Slovenia.
